Terms of Use & Disclaimer
Effective date: 2026-09-09
These are the terms of use for ValidHunt, a
hunting-planning application for Wisconsin. This document is also
served at https://hunt.learnedgeek.com/policies/terms
(and will move to a validhunt.com URL when that
domain is provisioned) — the two versions are always identical.
If they ever disagree, the hosted version at the canonical URL
is the source of truth.
By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree,
don't use the app.
What ValidHunt Is
ValidHunt is a planning tool. Its job is to help you decide
whether a hunt is likely legal at a specific
place on a specific date, and when the legal
shooting hours fall on that date. It surfaces:
- Season windows and split-season closures for your tracked species
- Applicable licenses, stamps, and required authorizations
- Sunrise/sunset with the DNR longitude adjustment for your location
- Special rules (blaze orange, non-toxic shot, etc.) that apply on your date
What ValidHunt Is Not
ValidHunt is not a substitute for the Wisconsin DNR's
published regulations.
-
The DNR's published regulations at
dnr.wisconsin.gov
are the legal source of truth for every hunting rule in
Wisconsin. If ValidHunt and the DNR disagree, the DNR wins.
-
ValidHunt does not issue, sell, verify, or store hunting
licenses. Buy your licenses and stamps directly from the
DNR (via GoWild, a license agent, or license.wi.gov).
-
ValidHunt does not report harvests to the DNR. You are
responsible for registering game and complying with DNR
reporting requirements independently.
Your Responsibility
You are responsible for confirming that what you're about to do
is legal at your specific location on your specific date. That
means:
- Verify open/close dates and shooting hours
against the DNR-published regulations before you hunt.
ValidHunt does its best to keep the data current, but
regulation cycles change and errors can slip through.
- Verify your license, stamp, and authorization
eligibility independently. ValidHunt's wallet is a
self-reported convenience — it isn't proof of a valid
license.
- Verify the legality of your specific location.
ValidHunt shows public land classification and parcel
ownership from public county records, but private-land
access, leased-land status, and posted restrictions are
your responsibility to check on the ground.
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and local
law, including firearms regulations, hunter
education requirements, and safety rules.
Data Accuracy
We do our best to keep the regulation data current, but:
-
The Wisconsin DNR publishes an updated regulation set
annually. There is always a lag between DNR publication
and ValidHunt's ingestion + verification.
-
The DNR occasionally issues mid-year updates, emergency
closures, and county-level rules that may not be reflected
in the app immediately.
-
The parcel-ownership data comes from public county assessor
records. The DNR does not vouch for its accuracy, and
county assessors update it on their own cadence.
-
Sunrise/sunset times are computed from astronomical
ephemeris data. Weather, terrain, and horizon obstructions
may affect actual visibility.
If you find data that appears wrong, please report it to
support@learnedgeek.com so we can investigate.
No Warranty
ValidHunt is provided "as is" without any warranty, express or
implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We disclaim all warranties, including
merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and
non-infringement.
- We are not liable for any citation, fine,
forfeiture, injury, loss, or damage arising from your use
of the app or reliance on its data.
- Your use of the app is at your own risk.
If a hunt turns out to have been illegal — because the DNR
changed a rule, because the app was wrong, because your
zone assignment was uncertain, because your license expired
— you bear the consequences.
Payments and Subscriptions
If ValidHunt offers paid features:
-
Payment is processed by a third-party provider (Stripe).
ValidHunt does not store your card information — Stripe
does. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle it.
-
Subscription terms (duration, price, renewal, cancellation)
are disclosed at the point of purchase and captured on your
account.
-
Refund requests are handled case-by-case. Contact
support@learnedgeek.com.

of the new terms.
